I agree that both parties have imperialist tendencies. In fact, I believe that the parties are a very good reflection of the general U.S. population.

How many people did you meet that opposed the war in Afghanistan, as an example? There was hardly an outcry over Kosovo and even less so over Panama.

I have never been to a country where war is treated as casually as it is in the U.S. War in the general American psyche today is simply a tool to obtain what America considers its just deserts. We don't just need to change the parties, we need to change first and foremost ourselves.

However, empires profit tremendously from their vassal states. Most empires didn't end because they suddenly lost their appetites for wars to defend their privileges, they eventually declined because they couldn't afford these wars anymore despite the perceived privileges. I believe the U.S is closing in on that reality.
