The current proposals for dealing with global warming impose larger costs on North America and Australia than Europe. They also will involve massive transfers of money from citizens and productive enterprises, to marginal projects, with various financial institutions getting a large slice of the transfer.

Meanwhile, China, India and Russia will be exempted, ignore or lie about the limitations.

This becomes a massive taxation without representation scheme, with little input from voters. The financial types who will profit are not generally known to be friends of democracy.

The cure may be worse than the disease, the risk not being the money spend on reducing carbon, but in establishing institutions which cannot be controlled.
