Sounds just like the standards setting organizations of this day and age !!! You make some good points though. In addition to the monetary side, changing the timing component of any challenge also seems kind of flaky. Patents have a live and their validity needs to be challengable for the duration of their existence.

Lots of dimensions in innovation, but the bottom line should be that it results in new products and services and not just those of a legal nature.

Whatever new focus is derived for patenting, it needs to bridge the gap between invention and productivity. In that area, it seems that complexity and rapid change is what's ruling the roost. It all reminds me of the Guess Who medley youtube.com Times haven't really changed ... much
