being at stage IV is key....

from what i have read, at stage IV has spread throughout the body and the cancer is no longer curable, treatment is done to prolong life, and statistically what i've read is not good at all...something like less than 4% live even 5 more years....most die within 6 months to 2 years

the question becomes do you want to marshall all of your resources fighting the inevitable, uncurable or do you seek palliative care.......just a terrible choice either way...i think it's absolutely instinctual to fight.....and of course the younger the person the stronger that instinct is

that said, the personal choice i think really reflects the innate personality of the afflicted person....for example, while i consider myself a 'fighter' and i take personal ownership of my health (meaning i'm proactive in maintaining and enhancing it) ..... i also have an extremely pragmatic side and would not consider it 'giving up' if i chose not to go the treatment route, i would consider it to be a pragmatic decision to spare myself and my loved ones the ordeal of the treatment...

i found an interesting article on 'hope' and 'false hope'...even if i chose to forego treatment, i think i would still have hope, believing that i could be that one in a million chance to survive
