It's all very confusing.

In October, the Pope indicated that limbo, supposed since medieval times to be a "halfway house" between heaven and hell, was "only a theological hypothesis" and not a "definitive truth of the faith".

A "definitive truth of the faith"??? That's a real oxymoron. Everything about theology relies on interpretation of the bible, which has little or no basis in fact. If some things can be labelled a "theological hypothesis", that implies that other things can be labelled "theological fact", which is again an oxymoron.

How does the church decide to accept something as a "definitive truth of the faith"? Since no evidence can be applied to matters of faith, by what means is this classification made? Conjecture? Instilling fear in the masses? Perhaps it's more marketable to avoid the idea that someone might go to a "halfway house" for eternity, rather than burn in hell. If you're going to be Christian, better not be in part way or else. Embrace and accept it completely, or fear the ultimate penalty that we can possibly think of - burning forever. What a sick and perverted ideology. Why do people believe this nonsense?
