There is some truth to that. Sometimes too much firepower is bad. There was a platoon leader in Viet Nam who ordered his troops to put their weapons on single fire warning that any automatic weapons fire would be regarded as hostile. His platoon developed into one of the most effective fighting units in the war.

Single shots forced his troops to think, to aim at their targets. They never ran out of ammo. They took few casualties because the enemy couldn't see where the shots were coming from. They never killed a friendly... but killed a lot of NVA and VC.

Sadly, the lessons of this platoon were never adopted by the Rambos in the rest of the Army.

Iraq Shock and Awe apparently only bolstered Iraqi confidence that they could survive. I would suspect that what is going on in Iraq would give confidence to Iranians that they could survive anything we could throw at them as well.
