I was just watching an episode of the Military Channel (which I had seen before) where the most successful of the WWll disguised German commerce raiders, the Penguin, was sunk off the Persian Gulf in 1941 by the cruiser HMS Cornwall. Now that's irony. No permission needed by the Cornwall's Captain. Many British POW's went down with the Penguin. War was war then, and what mattered was winning.
