KLP said Gore had said anti-American things. That is the subject. That is what we were talking about. Do you think Gore has been anti-American? I think, as I said, that he is no more anti-American than conservatives who went around lambasting democratic presidents and their policies.

Since I see venom on both sides of the spectrum quite frequently, if I believed as you do, that this is evidence of mental illness, I'd have to believe that quite a few people on the left and the right are mentally ill. I do not think this. I think they are just "religious" about their causes, and have converted what they believe into the classic manichean struggle of good versus evil. Far from being mentally ill, that's actually a very common human failing- one sees it all the time, although it's hard to recognize on one's own side sometimes.
