suma....

i do think flax seed oil is excellent as well....i take one tablespoon a day...

what got me started on adding flax into my diet was my desire to add omega-3's into my diet in a natural form....fish is an excellent source, particularly salmon, but over the years i have become very concerned about the contaminants and quality of fish today.....also my husband has a seafood allergy, so i felt it was important to find another source of omega-3's for him (his family has a history of heart disease, though thankfully, he is in great health)...if there were just 2 things a person could do to help prevent heart disease, it would be take some form of omega-3 supplement (in this case natural flax seed) and one baby aspirin per day

getting back to the flaxseed oil....i just don't feel that flaxseed oil alone sufficient....as you say the fiber in ground flax is essential for colon health.....so i take both.....truthfully i do not like the taste of the flaxseed oil....the only foods i have been able to add it to and actually enjoy is soups (particularly lentil)

here's more on the benefits of flax seed oil...basically i think it's as 'good as' the seed, but as you suggest, you give up the necessary fiber if you use only the oil
