It's about IRANIAN politics. A distraction from the UN sanctions and condemnation and a "rally 'round the flag, boys!" move.

"Some British seem to have forgotten the 1930s. Europe stood by then and watched Htler break provision after provision of the Versailles Treaty and did nothing. I know, the US was guilty too, although not a party to that treaty. The UK and France had the right to intervene and did nothing until Herr Hitler decided he wanted war. We expect nothing of the French; we expect much better of you. You saw what happened when our embassy was taken; are you prepared to wait 440+ days to get your people back- -if ou get them back alive at all?
I would expect my government to fully back you and be very disappointed in it if it didn't.
Is the price of appeasement bever learned?"
