Salmon can be fine- -IF it's the right salmon, as you said. The better brands list the mercury content. What you want is wild cold-water salmon. Wild because the mercury content s lower; cold water because the unsaturated fat levels are higher. (Unsaturated fats remain liquid at lower temperatures than saturated fats.)

Studies have shown that the mercury in fish can do more damage to the heart than the unsaturated fats do good if the mercury level is high enough.
