Nonsense. A high crime is more along the lines of treason. Perjury, while considered a serious crime, doesn't even rise to the level of a felony.

Nonsense again. While true of some, the Republican Party of that day had strong roots in what became the populist movement. Which was hardly a bastion of liberal elitists.
