From a monetary point of view, Iran is making a killing on their taking of British hostages. If they did this for money as I suspect the real motive was, they aren't going to push this event to the point where Saudi Arabia will open the oil spigots to bring the price of oil down, so it's unlikely that they will continue to hold the hostages much longer.

If gasoline supplies to Iran are threatened seriously, I think Iran will quickly back down and release the hostages. After all, a cutoff of gasoline would cause serious domestic problems for Iran. This is the fundamental reason to expect oil prices to peak shortly and come back down.
