If you grow up close to your parents and siblings, as I did, you always feel a sense of security knowing they are out there. I had my maternal grandparents well into my 30's. They were a wealth of knowledge to me. OTOH, I never knew my dad's father and his mother passed away in my late teens. Today, my only two grand daughters are 1200 miles away and they barely know who I am. Even though communications these days is such a simple thing, I still never hear from them. When I call there, they are always "gone".
