THAT ain't it, LOL, (although *confusion* and incompetence likely are playing their usual significant roles....)

Suggest you give this Intelligence analysis (by a fine bunch of well-connected MI & economics analysts out of Texas) a read when you can find the time, GZ. (It posits an interesting proposition, that the US --- and, for all I know, most other large and powerful and complex nations --- habitually UNDERESTIMATES the source of it's *true strengths*, while also habitually OVERESTIMATING other factors that it nconsiders to be it's real strengths... but that are in actuality not it's trump cards.)

The analysis uses, as it's examples to explicate this proposition, every significant US war (hot or cold) since the 'big one' WW II. It challenges quite a few sacred cows.

Fascinating examination of how 'conventional wisdom' and politically correct thought is USUALLY incorrect, (& how political establishments are usually fighting 'the last war'.):
