I'm of the school of thought that you don't start something you can't afford to finish if the facts on the ground go against you. And if people who think as you do have made a miscalculation, then we would be well and truly screwed. Right? You can hope a good bombing does the trick, but what if it opens another war, or a wider war? I don't see how you can discount that possibility.
