Having built the first ever petrochemical free fuel system over 20 years ago, needless to say I have probably followed these types of " progress" longer than most. To answer the first question that comes to mind for the reader. I built a charcoal burning fuel supply onto a f2 Toyota engine when i was 19 (not petrol assisted) the vehicle ran exceptionally well, at 24 still thinking a was the worlds greatest inventor, realised the planet would be stripped bare of trees in around 3 months to replace fuel. Not everything is always as it seems. The topic of fuel cells, most predominately hydrogen fascinates everyone, yet the average punter has no idea there is an entire country already planning and is running on them there cousins the hydrogen tank. The governments have no intention of letting any reasonable untaxable technology past the post. Albeit that when it does, it will likely take the form of a licence fee like pomme televisions, you pay a licence top turn on your TV to pay for govt stations. So too the thousands of dollars for such licences will come. In australia, you pay taxes on dams you build because you dont use govt water, they are now considering taxes for water tanks for the same reason. Be carefull what you wish for. If you simply want less polltuion, i could halve it in one day without any wild theories, it is so simple it is stupid no one else has thought to do it. Vanity is our only flaw. go down to a post office and get a night postcard of every city in your country, beautiful arent they. just turn of those billions, yes billions of lights burning at night excepting open businesses, and that is most of your pollution. New York would use almost three times the electricity at night than to run it during the day. Bio diesel? like the charcoal burner, not enough plants, fuel cells? new battery technology will probably out run it, whereby onboard production will likely be the course and the fuel is burnt like lpg, yes production levels are low, yet hydrogen produces vast amounts of energy per millilitre compared to lpg, in fact the energy produced by converting hydrogen without combustion as is the current method, is a fraction of its combustion power, the scary hydrogen bomb theory must be overcome and reseach put back into direct combustion of it.
