A Dresden type attack, that took out Iranian women and children, would solidify America's position as the Great Satan, and such attacks often have the result of solidifying opposition, world wide opposition. As far as I know Iran has not launched an attack on America. It has captured some soldiers (UK soldiers) it thinks were in its waters.

I'm also sure you are aware that Dresden did not occur in the absence of ground forces. It was part of a package.

I don't underestimate air power- it can do a lot of damage, but it rarely can "win" a war, and in this case, I think it would make things much worse, when what we really want is to make things better. Pouring oil on the waters of the ME is not my idea of making the place more stable. You may think you hate war, but I don't think you hate it quite enough.

If you really hate war, you not only think of metaphors for WWII, but you remember WWI, and the amazingly deadly power of unintended consequences, and the folly of thinking wars and aggressive acts are easily predictable- or that the consequences of such acts can be contained.
