Flash tablets from Fujitsu by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Thursday, 29 March 2007 Fujitsu is introducing two tablet computers with flash memory storage rather than traditional hard drives. The LifeBook P1610 and B6210 were last week made available to corporate customers with a Nand flash-based solid state drive (SSD) rather the industry standard hard disk drive (HDD). Fujitsu said the notebooks, which come with either 16Gbyte or 32Gbyte of flash storage, were ideal for medium-sized to large organisations in sectors such as healthcare and aviation that required a light and highly durable mobile computer. Fujitsu is one of a number of vendors working on Flash memory drives for PCs as they are seen as more reliable and energy efficient than HDDs because they have no moving parts and hence consume less power. Flash memory drives are also quicker than HDDs, but hold far less data and are up to seven times more expensive per gigabit than traditional drives. Earlier this year SanDisk released the first flash memory-based drives for mobile PCs. arabianbusiness.com
