Roguedolphin,
yah, Elizabeth don't have a clue, she still thinks Iraq had something to do with the 9-11 attacks. That is sad, but it does reflect some of the ignorant, scared Republican loyalists that still rally around the boy-King from Crawford, TX.
Rosie don't have a clue either, she is regurgitating propoganda she's reading on conspiracy websites. Referencing WTC-7 collapse on 9-11....
Rosie: "for the first time in history, fire melted steel... its physically impossible for a building to fall in the manner that Tower-7 did without using explosives...."
The NIST did extensive technical invesigation of WTC-7 collapse, and is all explained at their website.
I'm a degreed civil engineer, and I assure you that steel can yield, bend, and even melt when subjected to high enough temperatures. How else would steel mills be able to make steel structural members such as I-beams, or roll steel plate. The steel alloys are subjected to heat-treatment which allows the steel to be bent and extruded to the proper size and shape, and give it the proper strength.
The WTC towers were subjected to extremely high temperatures from burning jet fuel, and critical steel structural members eventually failed which allowed the concrete structure and floor slabs to fall. These steel components did not have to melt, all that was required was for the steel to expand or bend from the extreme heat, and this is what allowed the floor slabs to collapse in the towers.
I have one simple principle of civil engineering to share with you here. As a building material, concrete is great in compression, but it utterly fails in tension. Reinforced concrete depends on its steel rebar for its strength in tension, and allows it to withstand shear stress when subjected to bending moments.
Rosie and Elizabeth both represent the type of misinformed, extreme points of view of both the left and right in this country. Unfortunately, the Bush administration has worn out its trust from the majority of the American public. |
