What determined that you had a weak one in the first place ?
MI. Myocardial infarctiom = heart attack. The first day following one, you're DOWN- -completely bedridden. The nurses will enforce it. The next day, you're allowed to walk to your heart's content- -which isn't much; you're still weak. Both days you're in cardiac ICU. The third day, same rules, but you can manage more walking.
About a month after discharge, a echocardiogram sress test was done- -run like h*** on the treadmill with EKG leads attached, then once your heart rate reached the goal pulse rate, sonar doppler units are used to visualize the heart movement and blood flow through it. It was found I had only a 25% ejection fraction; 50% - 65% is normal. The ejection fraction is the percentage of blood that enters the heart as compared to that ejected from the ventricle. Diagnosis was "idiopathic cardiomyopathy" - "idiopathic" meaning they have no idea what caused it; they were sure it pre-existed the MI; "cardiomyopathy" means the heart muscle is abnormally weak. Normal course of the disease is continued deterioration resulting in heart failure and death.

Laz could you share with us the treatment you implemented to make your heart muscle strong...
I had too many sites I hadn't gotten to for that "normal course". :-)
Without my cardiologist knowledge, I started hiking- - REAL severe hiking up some very steep hills near here; both days of the weekend. FORCE that muscle to strengthen.
After 3 months, another echocardiogram stress test; significant improvement. Ticker dood gives me an odd look and asks if I have any idea why; I tell him what I've been doing. He gives me an even odder look- -but doesn't say to stop. Hey, it's working, isn't it?
3 months after that another stress echocardiogram. It's gone. Ejection fraction is in the normal range along with range of contraction of the ventricles.

Use at your own risk.
