I think a rational delivery is difficult in any system, but I suspect the socialized countries do a better job of meeting everyone's needs. While boutique care is wonderful, I think I could give it up if I knew every child in America had access to immunizations and routine check ups, and that adults could go in for sub critical problems before they became critical, or before they felt they needed to drop in on an ER. Also, I think triage is a major function in socialized countries- my son had a critical infection, and so they got him in right away. If you aren't critical, I imagine you have to wait- but that makes a certain amount of sense.

It makes sense to me that with socialized care you would attempt to provide the best care for the greatest number. Right now, of course, what we provided is elite care for the wealthy, acceptable care for people with lesser health plans, and no care or crappy care for the working poor, the lower middle class, and the truly needy.

If this is considered a political post and not allowed Suma, my apologies. Just let me know.
