elmatador,
Russia does need a large army, but mainly because of its large territory and as a make-work/employment program. Any potential invaders should read their history books, especially the chapters called "Napoleon" and "Hitler."

I agree about the "delirium of grandeur," but Russia has been humbled by its loss of the cold war, so for hubris I would look elsewhere, at least for the next 10 years.
IMHO, the Hungary and Czech showcases have a different purpose, which is to entice Russia to join the EU. The US has not caught onto this yet. The EU will do this at an inopportune moment for the US(probably after the big reset, AKA TobagoJack's Teotwawki), creating the Eurasian behemoth that US geopolitical elites have long feared.
