Orda, You make an interesting observation. Unfortunately, there is ZERO probablility and some extremely miniscule chance anyone could ever get a root kit onto my online system as it runs in stealth mode on the web to begin with. I am virtually invisible and it is also a known fact that people looking to hack into personal computers instead of corporate ones, will be just a like a burglar. They rtake the path of least resistance.
Sure, someone could spend weeks trying to hack their way into my computer and find nothing of any value to them. Do you think the possibilities are high of that happening?
I have two forewalls and a router with very high security and yet another firewall plus my machine is continually scanned by several mal-ware, A/V, antispam, ad blockers and my security settings and filters on my browser restrict and awful lot.
People could do so much more to protect themselves than what they know how to do because they simply do not really know their software capabilities or settings and ceertain other things as well, like WEP and WPA on the routers.
I am not going to waste board space here discussing it. I have a pcadvice board for this kind of thing if someone needs help on another board, actually two other websites.
Why the incessant assault on a simple thing like not everybody has to have a trusted drive? IS this somehow threatening to conventional thinking?
Does everybody need an X-box or a Playstation or a DVR? Does everybody really need a cell phone?
How did we ever get along without them before, and I still do.
The simple truth is if you don;t keep vital, critical information on your computer, then you will not need to worry period. A very simple axiom and statement not intending to dampen the sales or spirits or high expectations of everyone here. I truly cannot imagine what is so difficult to grasp about that concept.
