i believe what they want is an incentive to save for retirement. this is different in giving you $20,000 tax free income upon withdrawal.. withdraw from self directed ira and you pay ordinary income tax. if you deducted contribution up front.

i look at this as another incentive to save with pensions going away. there will be no retirement lump sum to move over to an ira self directed plan down the road. corporations are doing away with retirement plans.
