My pet's vet explained that we have come to rely on wheat gluten for pet food to the point that some animals cannot tolerate it any longer. American pets have consumed billions of lbs of wheat, chicken parts and beef parts. Those three items have been staples of pet food since its inception.

My dog is highly allergic to wheat products and beef. She now eats Kangaroo and oats. It is expensive, but not as expensive as constant trips to the vet.

She can tolerate fruits and vegetables also, but gets sick at the smell of wheat.
