As a reward for his devotion, General Shinseki was disparaged by Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz. Rumsfeld wanted to show how cheap war can be, and now our soldiers are paying the price. I wish some people on the left had a deeper respect for the military, but lately the left isn’t where the most consequential disrespect has come from.

He's wrong. As a liberal, my respect for the army has grown. Up until this war, I never felt comfortable around army folk. Their image was embodied in the screaming, southern drill sgt. However, the way they have conducted themselves in this war....making sure that there's definite separation between the military and the gov't and their unquestioning respect for the Constitution has been commendable; generals retiring so they could then, and only then, voice their criticisms of the war yet never once disparaging Bush or Rumsfeld. This is one liberal the US military has made proud. I see abu Ghraib as an aberration. In fact, the US military is the only good thing about this war and I support them fully.
