A retired SF buddy of mine who still works in the "business" spent last night with an SFer who just got back from 7 months in the box. They met last night for supper and an opportunity to get caught up. He just told me this...

Asked, "Can we win it?"…

His buddy's comment was short and to the point, "We've already lost it."

He explained that the well has run dry WRT Iraqi citizens helping the U.S. identify insurgents and insurgent activities. Nobody wants to talk to U.S. Soldiers. The citizens fully expect the Dems to eliminate funding of the war, which will result in a major U.S. withdrawal of forces. Iraqis know that once the U.S. withdraws, the insurgents will come out of hiding and begin mass executions of those who supported the U.S. He also said that the insurgents that they are able to get their hands on are saying that they're simply going to lay low, and wait for the withdrawal to take place, then they can "go to work"…

It's Viet Nam, circa 1975, all over again.. Only this time the killing will be horrendous.

Of course this is only one man's personal opinion..but he's been there..and he's seen first hand from working with Iraqi forces and citizens how things really are.

We've become a nation led by cowards.. It sickens me to think where we'll be in ten years..
