Cheeky -

Yes, I've been on SI since 1996, and I do recall the recent reworking. Unfortunately, it left the color scheme and "logo" intact. I put that in quotation marks because it isn't a true logo, but an illustration that I suppose is intended to convey the concept of "community".

Yes, I say let Bill Ulrich give the site a makeover if he will do it and the powers that be will allow it. Since the site is now styled using CSS, according to that link, it would be easy to make changes. Just edit the style sheet.

[edit] I just looked at the source of this page, and though a style sheet is used, there is also a "background color" declaration in the <body> tag. That's not allowed under current web standards, and certainly shouldn't be necessary if you have a style sheet anyway. Better to declare the background color there.

Also, there is no doctype declaration, which is something good web developers look askance at.

I say all of this only in the spirit of constructive criticism.
