I'm not sure what you mean by "who is driving this new class". Schumpeter's idea was that the wealth of capitalism would allow for the development of a sort of parasitical knowledge class, that would feel no allegiance to the very capitalism that allows them to exist. Essentially, what drives them is a desire for power, which they seek through government and not business.

I suspect we are entering a populist era, at least in the United States. Economic insecurity isn't something that people will put up with for long, and cheerleading won't convince people that they are better off financially. If they are well off, cheerleading won't be necessary. The Utopian vision of a borderless world and a global economy is an idea suited to corporate theorists and not real societies. In the rarified air of the modern Candides there is no nationalism, ethnic or religious rivalries, and cultural differences that won't be erased by the mighty and unstoppable engine of world trade. Dream on. Buy your ticket on the Titanic now.
