Well, it was a Discovery, and I bought it used, for about $20K, cash. The reason I mentioned it was to explain why some people drive SUVs, which was for me that everybody in my family is tall -- the "baby" is 6'4", and also that I have to drive over snow and ice to get to work, and haul things for renovating the house, which we also bought used. My kids can't sit comfortably in smaller cars.
Not exactly a status symbol, just a very practical vehicle, and a real blast to drive.
Drove the Disco for 8 years, sold it for $8K, when the kids got too tall for it. Now drive a Toyota Sienna.
I wear a Timex watch and buy underwear at Walmart, but I also grind my coffee beans fresh every morning and make coffee in a Bodum French press pot.
Getting good value for money isn't the same thing as conspicuous consumption. If it costs a lot of money but it lasts forever, then that's good value. |
