...my first reply to an s.i. thread...just registered...Regardless of all the hoopla, it is obvious that 1) asnd has some issues, and 2)as evidenced by recent quotes of internet backbone providers...internet traffic is doubling every 3.5 mounths, and uunt specifally said we expect our network to be %1000 larger in three years (John Sidgemore)
Issues as I see them:
The Max TNT had been running hot, when fully loaded
with 56kb cards.
Max TNT with 56k cards had software problems...(dropped connections...poor thouroughput)
I found it interesting that in their press release
regarding uunt, they mentioned specifacly 170k ports for the TNT
however no numbers on the GRF...I feal this is because the GRF was a bone throne to them by uunt, (maybe to keap csco on their toes?)
and not a contract of signifacance, If you look at Tolly reports you will find that the GRF doesn't move packets like asnd claims...more like a 10th of the amount claimed...the reason ISP's are wiling to put up with asnd's poor scalibility in the ras space, is because no-one
NO-ONE is yet to touch them in terms of port density...

Longer term:
expect voice over I.P....voice ovver Frame Relay...Voice over ATM
Voice over xxx to be everywhere...100 milliion peaple on a waiting list to get phone service for the first time in their lives...thinking frame relay is dead?...also expect ocxxx from frame relay...
remember when we were all told analog would max out at 1200 baud?
This isn't about csco VS asnd...there is room for three pony's in any race...you LOVED cscc...(right?...when ATM was everything?)
believe me...asnd will not only survive these short term issues (give me a beak, they have a limited customer base, of course back end loaded...and of coursse they will have a quaterly dissapointment!...
look at there year to year growth for a track record...this space is huuuuuge!!!!!!!!!!!!....food for thought:
The entire Datacom market is only $30 billion...csco,coms,bay,fore,asnd,shva,gdc,olcmf,mrvc,...etc.
The telecom market is $100 billion...LU, NT,Siemens...etc...
