JDN and others: Can anyone explain the allure of Fred Thompson? This is a guy who twice in his life chose acting over politcs. He admitted to being bored in the Senate...and voluntarily left. Is a guy who plays a District Attorney on TV the best there is for President. Thompson was a solid, basic, conservative Senator but he supported McCain over Bush in 2000 and he strongly supported McCain/Feingold on campaign spending reforms. Not exactly a resume for most conservatives. Yeah, he was an attorney, long long ago, on the Watergate hearings. Then he quit public service to be an actor. Other than this resume, has he been out front on any issue? Is there something we know about his leadership skills? I can't find much about any legislation he sponsored, or supported strongly. Where's the beef??
