My parents had the opportunity to consider that option, there being no assurance that my father would survive the rest of the War, leaving my mother with me to cope with alone. The invasion of Japan would surely have been his fate and possible death.

They would have none of it, and I was born one month before D-Day, and before the decision to bomb Hiroshima which quickly ended the Pacific War where he would have headed as a navigator/bombardier on a Marine Corps PBJ.

A friend and colleague's parents were in Hiroshima when the A-bomb went off. They were saved by a small intervening hill which shielded them from the blast. They didn't abort him either.

I assure you, we are both grateful.
