The PII 300 tested used AGP and the 440LX chip set. As a matter of fact, I am entering this post on a Gateway 2000 Pentium 200 MMX almost identical to the one they tested. This is my current machine, and the PII 300 shows only a 13.8%% improvement. The test noted that a PII 300 was only 3% faster than a PII 266, both equiped with AGP and 440LX.
The tests were designed to mimic real world business use. I'm sure if you spend enough time you can find tests that answer your questions. No matter where you look you will find roughly the same answer. Intel is making improvements but they are very slow and those chips that AMD has been able to make are competative. (see my earlier post with a link to compare K6 and equivilant Intel chips) As an Intel investor you may not want to believe it, but these are the facts. The big leap forward won't happen until next year, then later even more so with Merced. Certainly a PII 300 is a lot better than a 486, but so is a P100.
