I may be a bit biased towards Western countries, that's true. But I think that you are just as biased towards Iran. You come out on their side in most of our debates. Are you Iranian or Middle Eastern? And I mean no disrespect, if you are. I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from. BTW, I am second generation immigrant. My father was born elsewhere. So I'm about as unbiased as an American can be.

I am European American. And I am not coming out in favor of the Iranians even if it appears that way. I think they are acting like jackasses too......the operative word being "too". The US is not acting like a sophisticated, first world country.......instead it is acts like an Iran. Consequently, I no longer assume the US is in the right. The American gov't has done too many bad things for me to automatically assume its telling the truth.

Its something I never understood when I traveled in Europe. Europeans would say they liked Americans but they didn't like the American gov't. I thought they were being very unfair. I now realize what they meant. Americans believe in all the good things we are taught.....the Dec. of Independence, democracy, the Constitution etc. However, the American gov't is more interested in promoting its sphere of influence throughout the world and only pays those American documents lip service. Americans have to stop drinking the koolaid if they are to get a gov't that more reflects their views. Right now, our gov't reflects the views of a minority. You want energy independence.......so do a majority of Americans. Is the American gov't working towards energy independence? No. That's because there is a minority who could care less if we get to energy independence. A majority of American citizens want the gov't to be working on global warming. Is the American gov't working on global warming? Hardly.

We blame this stuff on Bush but Bush is just the final product after decades of American abuses and aggression throughout the world and indifference to what its citizens want. I wish I had a dollar for every time while growing up I heard people say Washington doesn't care what we think. Its not just complaining.....its the truth.

Going back to Iran.........yeah, the ayatollahs can be assholes but they are no worse than the Shah and they are far better than Musharraf of Pakistan. Why have we let relations with one of the most important countries in the ME languish and get ugly over nearly four decades? From a logical, practical POV it doesn't make sense particularly if we want to play a major role in the ME and see stability there. Its like pissing off Germany while trying to get NATO started. That's what I am angry about....its all these ideological agendas that are determining the course of the American gov't as opposed to what is best for its citizens.

Do you understand what I mean?
