Right now, I'll admit I'm biased against Iran. Alomst EVERYTHING I read points me in the direction of bias against Iran and the Middle East in general. I'm open-minded enough to understand that. However, in Tejek's posts he seems to be incredibly biased towards Iran, defending them as if he was one of them. So somewhere between Tejek's opinions and mine lies the truth. Understanding his paradigm (background and context through which he sees the world) can help me understand why he defends Iran so vigorously, while I lambast them so virulently. And if one understands context, then you are that much closer to understanding the truth of the situation, rather than what the propaganda machines, otherwise called news media, in the US and the Middle East spew out.
First, let me say....the world is a very big place with lots of different peoples. We need to work a little harder understanding how they think.
Secondly, if I am defending the Iranians, its only to act as a counter balance to all the negative info in the press and on this thread. I have met Iranians.....and they are an intelligent, peaceful, proud people. They are Persians.....very different from the Arabs. This is a nation we should be encouraging, not engaging in war. Its another example of what I said in my previous post......Iran has been declared an enemy by the American gov't, not the American people. I don't believe that that declaration represent the best interests of the American people.
Thirdly, I think the operative words from up above say it all......."almost EVERYTHING I read". MM, you can't always believe what you are reading.....esp. in the American press. Did you read the article by Paul Krugman that JF posted? It says it all........I learned back in 2001 that what we are being told was not what the rest of the world was being told. There's a real problem......the irony is that the neos have convinced the country that the MSM is liberal. The MSM is not liberal........if it has a bias, that bias is more conservative than liberal.......at least when it comes to foreign diplomacy. But that's not good enough for the neos.......only FOX which they control is close enough to the ideal. Having said that, things have changed a bit in the last couple of years with the media starting to really scrutinize what's happening in this nation. But American papers pale in comparison to their British counterparts. |
