Sam,
I have been trying to get the answer to this without any luck for some time, and I think it is very important to the present discussion on the greenhouse effect of CO2. How much natural CO2 is generated annually? I read that man's CO2 contribution is only in the single digits, around 3 to 8% of the total global annual CO2 flux. Most comes from nature, i.e. volcanoes, rotting vegetation, oceans, etc. I have only found one paper that gives actual numbers, and this by believers of GW: radix.net
Note that the values for natural fluxes are so vagues as to be worthless: "Estimates for oceanic primary production range from 15 to 126 GtC/year with a best guess of 50 GtC/year", a margin of error dwarfs man's contribution of 7 GtC/year. Are we using guesses to base our policy decisions?
My question is how can we blame man for green house gases if the greatest majority of CO2 occurs naturally, and when I cannot even find an accurate number for that.
