The churches used to provide most of the social assistance and help for their members. Now society provides those things, the Churches ran orphanages and stuff, until priesthood proved themselves less than reliable. Same with youth groups and all kinds of things. That is why they got all those benefits. I forgot they should also stop having donations to churches from being tax deductible. If you want to have a church, don't pay for it with tax payers money.
