When I see a map that says that the USSR warmed up more than any other large area on earth after the fall of the USSR, I get more intrigued.

However, if you look at the model projections going forward they show that as well. Two reasons off the top of my head 1) Northern hemisphere, 2) Middle of large land mass. Those maps also show northern Canada/Alaska looking similar.
