Is there any point in pretending that CO2 increases will be catastrophic? Or could they be modest and on balance beneficial? India has warmed during the second half of the 20th century, and agricultural output has increased greatly.

I don't think these crop yield benefits are in any way related to warmer temperatures, but are simply a result of the so-called "green revolution" which brought advanced inputs like improved seed and fertilizer to India during the late 1950s and early 60s.

Correlation does not imply causality.
