I've also seen the transcipts from the congressional hearings. I still say that this issue is a hoax.

Granted threre is a germ of truth to it - the problem is that it's been hyped beyond all reason. There is software that uses 2 digits for a century date field. There is also a lot of software out there that uses 4 digits for a century date field...or perhaps some other format. Computers have boundary conditions of all kinds. For example, limitations on memory and speed. Thousands of applications get re-written and updated every year to accomodate new technologies and user needs. Hell, the world didn't come to and end when people had to accomodate Zip + 4 in legacy apps.
