American Idol Top Eight – Sanjaya One Of The Smartest Contestants Ever
By Joe Reality on American Idol
Jennifer Lopez mentored the remaining eight American Idols finalists during Latin theme week. Jennifer Lopez professed to watching American Idol at her house, but she wouldn't reveal who her favorite was.
Melissa Doolittle sang "Sway." Randy Jackson said "I'm telling you, another solid performance." Paula Abdul said "Very, very sultry. Very smooth." Simon Cowell said "Well, it had to happen, Melinda, I didn't like it. I'll tell you why because that song is all about personality, and you appeared much, much older than you are." When Ryan Seacrest asked Melinda about Simon's comments, she said "I'm happy, because I think he really wanted to say something bad, and I'm glad he got the chance."
Lakisha Jones sang "Conga." Randy Jackson said "You were having the best time, having fun, you made it your own." Paula Abdul said "First, you look lovely, but I didn't feel it as much as Randy did. I felt it was more of a real safe Lakisha performance." Simon Cowell said "You were having fun, I'm not sure how much fun everyone at home would be [having] though." Ryan Seacrest told Simon Cowell, "What I wouldn't pay to see you try to do that though." Simon Cowell snapped back "I'm sure you would pay a lot."
Chris Richardson sang "Smooth." Randy Jackson said "You did a really good job." Paula Abdul said "It was a hot, hot performance." Simon Cowell said "I'm not going to say it was the best vocal I ever heard, because it wasn't, but I actually preferred it to the first two, because it felt more contemporary."
Haley Scarnato sang "Turn The Beat Around." Randy Jackson said "That was really karaoke for me tonight." Paula Abdul said "It's not a singer's song, but it's a fun song." Simon Cowell said "I think you have a very good tactic at the moment Haley, wear the least amount of clothes as possible. Because and look I'll be honest with you, you can't do well in this competition based on your voice because there are much better singers."
Phil Stacey sang "Maria Maria." Randy Jackson said "You didn't quite for me connect with the passion in that song." Paula Abdul said "Vocally, I thought with the exception of just the end there it was a real good vocal." Simon Cowell said "I found no originality in the performance. I thought it was all a bit lifeless, a bit flat, your voice cracked towards the end, so there's nothing I can get particularly positive or excited about to be honest with you."
Jordin Sparks sang "The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You." Randy Jackson said "You got it, because you've got it." Paula Abdul said "I love that you're just so authentic, and you're you." Simon Cowell said "We all know Jordin you're a good singer, I haven't seen a progression though tonight and that's very frustrating for me."
Blake Lewis sang "I Need To Know." Randy Jackson said "Best song choice of the night." Paula Abdul said "Very smart performance." Simon Cowell said "Blake, best choice of song for the night, best performance so far."
Sanjaya Malakar sang "Besame Mucho." Randy Jackson said "You're one of the smartest contestants I've ever met, dude. That was actually really good." Paula Abdul said "Really good pitch, smooth, it was nice." Simon Cowell said "I couldn't understand a word of it. You sang like a fourteen year old, and I'm going to hate myself for this. It wasn't horrible."
Who will be going home next? It's likely to come down to between Phil Stacey and Haley Scarnato, but everyone with the exception of Blake Lewis and Sanjaya Malakar should consider themselves at risk. Even though Melinda, Lakisha, and Jordin have been excellent in the competition to date, their fans shouldn't take anything for granted in the voting. However, in the end, our prediction is that Phil Stacey will be going home, but we also wouldn't be surprised if it was Haley Scarnato. |
