Sam,
I hope you realize that those of us who remain skeptics about GW can still care about the environment. This is the only planet we have and we have to take care of it. That said I do have problems when policies that will have a heavy financial impact are based on inexact science. I am sure you can remember the past scares that have had considerable financial consequences: silicone, alar, DDT, cell phones and brain cancer, dioxins, saran wrap in microwaves, etc.

We have to get energy somewhere, that is a fact of modern life. The electricity still has to be generated, and the fact is that fossil fuels will probably have to be burned to accomplish that. I am sure you remember the anti nuclear frenzy of a few years back. The nuclear plant at Rancho Seco not far from you was shut down. The US only generates 20% of its energy from that source, while Japan is at 35% and France 70%. I am not sure what methods are acceptable for generating power. There are objections to nuclear energy and fossil fuels, dams ruin pristine rivers, the rich do not like wind farms offshore from their Nantucket homes...

You admitted to investing in oil companies, so I too will confess to hypocrisy. Although I abhor smoking, I have invested in tobacco companies, but the gains have suppressed my guilt.
