OK, so let them pay QCOM for its IPR. CDMA is after all mostly about spectral efficiency and enabling data traffic. Edit: not so much about making nicer handsets: battery capacity, form factors, displays, MP3s, cameras and on and on.
NOK and the others are just selling devices to give consumers even more incentives to buy traffic and services from the Telcos.
If QCOM will enable Telcos to sell more data and build fewer towers and make out like bandits - let them pay for it.
QCOM and the carriers are good friends I understand - they can deal with it.
