I listen to many NLW at the various conventions they go to, to ply their wares. All look very good when the asset class they are pumping is in play.

Volumes of trading on the resource exchanges are still holding up. March of this year was better than march of last year although volumes are easing from the beginning of the year. The PDAC effect did occur to resource sectors, but U prices continue to rise so it's supporting U companies with drill measured resources and many of the juniors. Lots of the juniors topped out or are trending down as the market waits for them to drill and find something significant. Not all metals juniors are showing the same trends as U juniors. Many did not recover from the PDAC effect.

As long as the volumes hold up to current levels the market will be supported. But May is not over yet :-[)

There are four main parts to the May effect on Canadian resource markets. One is that many of the PP's rushed through in Nov and Dec to maximize broker bonuses come free trading by the end of April. The other is the lull that occurs between the winter drill season and the summer exploration season resulting in a pause in exploration results and people get bored with the lack of action. The third is the big traders take some vacations. And finally the big pile of money dumped on the market in Feb for RRSP contributions to qualify for the preceding tax year is finally allocated reducing demand for stocks. Each of these things on their own could cause an effect, but when they all come together it means only exceptional circumstances would stop the May effect from not happening altogether.

There are also snippets coming out of China that exports in the first quarter are down over last year. Also present are rumors that although imports of resources are high in the first quarter, they are not being consumed but are being stockpiled.

Who knows what will happen next :-[)
