Wavxmaster:

FDE.2 on platforms without TPM

ERAS connects directly to the FDE.2 drive via ETS/ETDM. password and encryption key are stored on a hidden partition of the encrypted FDE.2

The FDE does/can serve as a core-root-of-trust device. So it is a discrete (vertical) application involving the secure management of ecrypting hard drives.

At this time, in the first iteration of the FDE.2 there is no TPM involvement. This will come in the next iteration of FDE.2 and TPM...likely second half of 2007 with the introduction of USB interface encrypting ahrd drives. There the TPM is essential because the USB interface must be a trusted USB interface and a trust relationship platform-USB-hard drive will need to be established, here the TPM will serve as the core-root-of-trust
