Mary, there's an idea back of this maybe you've not heard of. It certainly seems unpopular with liberals and Democrats- -and Europeons- -these days. It's "the marketplace of ideas". Basically, it says let anyone throw anything out there- -with certain narrow exceptions- -and let the people sort it ouy. They've got enough sense to ignore nutcases. In Europe, there are laws against "hate speech"; here it is regarded as protected exercise of free speech. It is up to the adult population to sort out conflicting ideas and claims. Good ideas survive; bad ones get thrown out. Sometimes with their authors. Like Imus.

Frank;y, I like the American idea. I don't like the Europeon idea. Who's to say what's hateful and what isn't? Hitler? Shall the ideas that Jews should be allowed to live normal lives in normal society and practice their religion be considered hateful?
