The thing I found remarkable was how so many GOP candidates wanted to distance themselves from GW leading up to the Nov. elections. The GOP "rule through creation of fear" attempt (an age old tactic) failed miserably last Nov. I think that bodes well for the health of our Democracy. The tactic worked in 2004 but by 2006 it had run its course. Since I vote both ways, I am not stuck on one party or the other. Both offer good candidates from time to time. But what has happened over the past 6 years is the most serious attack on our personal freedoms that I have seen in my lifetime. And by next year, in inflation adjusted dollars, we will have spent as much in Afghanistan and Iraq as we spent in all of the Vietnam war.
