James,

"why Intel doesn't make motherboards with new chip set [440LX] in Portland?"

440LX just came out. Give it a few more weeks. You will see this chipset widen the performance gap between P-II and K6 systems. You think you are sweating over 440LX. Wait until 440BX. Remember it took 2 months for K6 to appear in our local computer swap meet here in the metro Detroit area. Meanwhile, it took only 1 month for P-II. On top of that, tier-1s were fighting to get more of P-II, and K6 were supposed to sell well in the swap meet's. Be patient. The time constant of progress may appear to be too painfully slow for us impatient consumers. Believe me, for I do understand your frustration.

"Does Intel have any inventory problem, like WSJ report, "Intel wouldn't fill an order for one type of chip set unless the small company also ordered a substantial number of an older chip set." trying to liquidate older chip set?"

No. Intel does not command as much profit margin in the chipset business as CPU. Therefore, there is really no need to liquidate older chipset.

"Don't use your big mouth talking on this thread."

When my big "cyber" mouth speaks, I hope you pay more attention!

John.
